Rome, Italy

So, I landed in Rome on Wednesday afternoon... I was absolutely exhausted... I didn't sleep much at all the night before I was out till after 3 and had to be awake before 6 and the paranoia of the alarm going off in time kept me awake... When I arrived here I kind of freaked out for the first couple hours... It's difficult going from one place where I was just starting to get comfortable and ended up having a great time to a brand new place and having to do it all over again... Getting adjusted, finding my way around and making new friends... So, let me tell you about how I got here to Rome, Italy...

Unlike most people I flew in to Ciampino Airport... Holy shit! It's like the same size as the Vineyard terminal and those fuckers didn't even stamp my passport... I'm like yellllllo can I get some proof here? Anywho, straight up tiny... Then I had to take a bus to the metro station in the center of the city... The bus was fine but the ride, ehhh. I get off the airplane and I'm like yeah, shit.. I'm in Rome and then I get on the bus and the scenery is bullshit. I kept asking myself over and over again.. They didn't stamp my passport? This place looks like a dump? Am I in Rome? Where the fuck am I? Yeah... I wasn't impressed. I am the first person ever who said they weren't impressed with the scenery in Rome... What an asshole I am. But for reals it was a joke... So I get to the train station and find my way to the stop I need to get off and walk to my hostel... My hostel is on the second floor of an apartment building... This lonely guy straight up put a hostel in his apartment. It's a three bedroom apartment or office whatever it is that is converted in to this cute little hostel. It's really nice and cozy but I think on a trip like this where I am forcing other backpackers to be my friend I need something a little bit bigger... Not that many people speak English and they are super cliquey because a lot of the people have been staying here for three weeks already.. Don't ask, I don't know....

After the check in was done it hit me that I have to do this all over again. Am I happy that I am in a new place? Absolutely. It means the journey is truckin' along and I am experiencing new things, it can just be super overwhelming. I took a walk for a couple hours around the neighborhood I am staying in and tried to gather my thoughts and deal with the situation...

When I got back to the hostel I met a girl named Jennifer. She is a student studying in Germany who is from Brazil... We bonded over the fact that I can swear in Portuguese. We went around and saw some of the less known sites today for the ending of her trip.... Then we went to Trevi Fountain where I tossed my coin in the water... Put it in my right hand and threw it over my left shoulder because apparently that is how you are supposed to do it... Then we walked over towards the Colosseum where we ate some lunch. I didn't go in to the Colosseum yet I am saving that for Saturday morning... It's been raining a lot here but luckily I got up early and caught a few hours of sunshine.... After that Jennifer had to leave so I was on my own again... I took the metro to the Spanish Steps part of the city... It's really nice over there. I walked all the steps and got a nice view of the city... I walked down and around the streets there... It is mostly filled with expensive shops like Prada, Gucci and the Disney Store... Good times... One cool thing about Rome is that the street vendors instead of having hot dogs or pretzels or whatever, they roast chestnuts and sell them... I am not sure if I like chestnuts I just think it is a cute idea... After I walked around awhile it started to pour so I decided to get back on the metro and head towards the hostel.... I had some tiramisu gelato, it was pretty awesome.

Not that many people speak English here but it's all good... They kind of pretend they speak way less than they actually do... If I'm sweet to them and say a few words in Italian especially thank you then they will speak to me in English which is nice. Roman guys, so weird... They are either sweet as can be but completely timid and can barely talk or they think they are hot shit, it's definitely awk.

There's not much else to say about Rome yet... Tomorrow I will head to the Vatican and do that whole deal and then Saturday I will do the Colosseum and old Rome like the Pantheon and stuff... The weather is not good right now. It is supposed to thunder and lightning later, great. I'll probably shit my pants which is uncool in general but I am also the only girl in my room.

Well, it's been real... I will update you all tomorrow with my adventures.

Peace!
